THE METHOD

Learn your body. Start with observation.

Explore Matthew Roberts’ nonmedical, nonsurgical approach to pain and whole-body well-being through awareness, deliberate movement, and reassessment.

01

Stimulate

Notice sensory input and areas of tension. The full method explores targeted stimulation.

02

Recruit

Bring attention to deliberate muscular activity and the surrounding movement pattern.

03

Move

Explore comfortable movement and how different areas work together.

04

Reassess

Return to the same baseline. Record what changed, including when nothing changed.

What is ABRM?

Autonomic Bio Recovery Maneuvers is a self-directed approach combining targeted sensory and mechanical input, voluntary muscular recruitment, movement, and reassessment. Matthew developed the approach through his own experiences with persistent discomfort and movement.

The working hypothesis is that these inputs, combined in a particular sequence, may influence movement organization, tension, recruitment, and pain perception. That explanation remains a proposal, rather than a demonstrated mechanism.

Observation comes first.

Choose a comfortable baseline movement. Notice your experience. Reassess that same movement afterward and record what changed. No change is also useful information.

Read the research hypotheses

ABRM is presented for education and personal exploration. Its proposed mechanisms and benefits have not been established by controlled ABRM studies. Do not force joints to pop, apply forceful neck maneuvers, or continue through sharp pain. Demonstrations are not individualized medical advice.
