Matthew Roberts · ABRM
Autonomic Bio Recovery Maneuvers combines sensory and mechanical input, voluntary muscular activity, movement, and reassessment. Its proposed mechanisms and outcomes remain questions for controlled investigation.
The central question
Can a standardized ABRM sequence produce acute, reproducible changes in reported pain location or intensity, movement, and recruitment that an appropriate comparison condition can distinguish from ordinary movement and expectation?
The working hypothesis
The brief proposes transient modulation of guarding and sensory processing, with changes in voluntary recruitment or mobility. Repetition may support retention or learning. These are hypotheses, not demonstrated causal pathways.
A proposed pilot
The author’s brief sketches a small within-person crossover comparing a defined ABRM sequence with a time-matched comparison condition. Suggested outcomes include sequential pain maps, active range of motion, force, and exploratory EMG and autonomic measures. The protocol remains subject to expert and ethics review.
What peer review can contribute
- Define the intervention and outcome measures clearly.
- Critique comparison conditions, blinding, and carryover.
- Review safety, particularly the upper-cervical component.
- Identify alternative explanations and falsification criteria.
- Help establish a safe, reproducible research pathway.
